2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,200 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 20 trips to carry that many people.

The Black Holocaust Has Never Ended!

Daffy DuckWhy do black people have to explain why racism still exists in America? You tell us. We didn’t create it. It must be amazing to be a part of the majority and privileged demographic in America, to never have to be concerned about racism, prejudice, profiling, lynching, slavery, etc. is a privilege.

People say it shouldn’t be called racism because we are all a part of the human race. American history tells us Black people (slaves) were never seen as fully human (only three-fifths) in the 1788 American congressional documents.  Do you think they see us like that now? Well when you are not viewed as fully human it is racism! And yet I even hesitate to comment on issues of race because I don’t want to offend my white friends.

Racism in America has never gone away. They try and write people of color out of our education system and this is the core of how racism begins. It is taught. Children are taught to look over our influence in history. And if children are taught (even black children) to forget about black history no wonder people of color don’t seem to matter in our present day.

We did not arrive because we have the King holiday. We did not arrive because of the election of President Barack Obama. And that is not America’s apology for slavery or our 40 acres and a mule. Having a truly African-American President stirred the pot to show that America still has an stage 4 racism cancer.

The Black Holocaust has never ended. Jews had their horrific holocaust at the hands of Hitler and it was over. But our holocaust has never ended. Black people are still marked for sifting, extinction, and death. We have been trained to kill each other. We are targeted by the police. We have never had relief from prejudice and racism. We still feel the injustices of Emmit Till, Medgar Evers, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rodney King, Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Mike Brown every time another black life is taken. If a white boy was gun downed by black police officers they would be in jail now.

Our holocaust has never ended! Slavery has taken on a new form through the prison system (free labor), the black eugenics plan (abortion) has killed more black lives than slavery, drugs (crack cocaine) were specifically given to the ghettos by the government to kill us, HIV/AIDS has killed more black people then any demographic, Africa has some of the most poorest and living conditions in the world, yet is one of the richest continents, and now the police act as the new KKK to execute young black men on the street and leave them there for 4 hours as they did when they hung from tears in the south.

I’m outraged. Because I still feel racism and other at like it doesn’t exist. I’m frustrated with my own people because they are so influenced by the demonic messages of Hiphop. I’m upset because the media portrays us as less then (3/5) whenever they can and demonize us as thugs. And I’m tired of having to explain why there is racism in the world. Here’s my question, “Are people of color valued as fully human other than entertaining you on a stage, field, or court?

I have wonderful white brothers and sisters in the faith and I’m thankful for them. Those that understand and are genuinely concerned about what we go through is crucial. And it is only because of the gospel that has brought down every dividing wall that separated us that unifies us in Christ and diversity (Ephesians 2:11-18). But diversity and unity has to move from a conversation to integration in a masterful mosaic for the Messiah to be glorified.

One day we will see how only Christ can unify us when there is no male, female, slave, free, Jew or Greek separate in Him but all one (Galatians 3:28; Revelation 7:9).

IS GOD ENOUGH? – Are Christians Really Content With Christ Alone

Yesterday I was asked this question, “IS GOD ENOUGH?” This question really made me ponder over “my desires” in life. Since it struck me I wanted to share and see how people would respond on Facebook and Instagram. Of course out of guilt or religious rhetoric most Christians answer in haste, “Yes, More than enough, Without a doubt!” However, I believe these hasty answers to be far from the truth. We may say it in word, but our beliefs deep down inside expose our actions revealing that we live and make choices based on God not being enough and it goes without us verbally expressing it. We live as if He isn’t enough.

Our brokenness, loneliness, voids, desires, bills and bank accounts, our eating habits, anger, frustration, gossip, complaining, our lack of patience, trust, and contentment, our constant IF I JUST HAD… says He’s Not Enough.

Under every sin we commit there is a lie we believe in… A lie saying GOD IS NOT ENOUGH. Adam and Eve dealt with the same thing in the Garden. The serpent twisted the Word of God into believing that what He commanded wasn’t enough, that the Tree of Life was not enough, and that them being like God already made in His Image, in His Likeness was not enough. They felt that God had cheated them and so they doubted that what He provided through sufficient instructions to live by and sustenance to live on was not ENOUGH. Thus they believed in the lie and we now all feel the affects of this sin.

Every sin we commit and every action we make contrary to the Word of God we are saying GOD IS NOT ENOUGH. Even when we have an ideal or dream full of consumerism and selfish gain; when we want people, places or things to fill our voids we are saying with our thoughts, deeds, and actions that GOD IS NOT ENOUGH. Think about it…

IS GOD ENOUGH for you to remain single? Or do you need a relationship and sex to validate your existence? Is God enough for you to truly be fulfilled in life? What is the lie you believe? That you are lonely, maybe even worthless without someone to be with. Is God Enough to glorify Him with your body?

IS GOD ENOUGH for you to stay faithful in your marriage? Or do you justify that pornography and adultery fill the void of the things your spouse won’t do. The lie is you find the solution to meet your own needs no matter how selfish. Our spouses do not complete us like the Jerry Maguire movie might have suggested, Jesus completes us.

IS GOD ENOUGH for you to sleep in a bed at night? Could you be homeless and say He is enough? Or do you need the nice neighborhood, plush bed, nice car, prestige, etc. for Him to be enough?  Is God enough for you to and ride the bus or use the new driving service Lyft?

IS GOD ENOUGH for you to be satisfied with your current financial status? Or do you need more just to have more for God to be enough? Is God enough for you to live below your means and pay off debt? Is He enough for you to know you are more valuable with or without a job and a dollar amount being assigned to you per hour?

IS GOD ENOUGH for you not to use alcohol and drugs or any other addiction to numb or cope with the pain in your life? Is He Enough to provide mental and emotional stability without illegal drugs, sex addictions, people addictions, and alcohol?

When we say GOD IS NOT ENOUGH, we are truly saying I WILL WORSHIP Him, Her, Money, Sex, Power, Drugs, Alcohol, Greed, Status, etc. because they are a better god. STOP WORSHIPPING YOUR VOIDS! They are a false gods that never fulfill or satisfy you eternally. Sure you will get a temporary fix, but you will still be empty in reality.

DO YOU TRUST GOD TO BE ENOUGH? WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT GOD TO BE TRUE? A.W. Tozer said, “the most important thing a Christian can do is to think rightly about God.” Do you? If you believe God to be judgmental, condemning, distant, untrustworthy, unloving, or unfaithful, you will bow down an worship every idol god (void) in your life. But if you Believe that God’s character and Word can be trusted, and know He is faithful, loving, protecting, and your Father you will know that He is enough and the Only one true of Worship. Salvation in knowing this Only One True God and Jesus the Son who He sent (John 17:3).

The old school church said it like this, “If God never does another thing He’s already done enough.” Yes, we desire to be in relationships. Yes, money helps us do more things. Yes, nice homes and cars are good, but you must ask yourself if I never get what I want and God has already given me what I need to IS GOD ENOUGH? If you don’t get _________________ IS GOD ENOUGH?

God Loves You From the Inside Out,

Everyone is a preacher on social media. People speak on their belief systems whether they are Christians or not, right or wrong, giving or selfish, wise or foolish, venting, seeking attention or just posting about life, their business or events. Everyone is a messenger of something because they use these social platforms to “preach” a message.

My question is “Do you really have influence outside of social media?” If no one is following you in real life you’re not really a leader. People followed Jesus because of the life He LIVED not what He posted about. Jesus had followers before Fb, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr. AND HE IS THE “PATH” TO THE FATHER (John 14:6). Jesus had followers because He was worth following… Paul had followers because he exemplified Jesus (1 Corinthians 11:1).

Why do people follow you? Why do you want people to follow you? Is it insecurity? Codependency? Success? Do you want to feel important? Do you genuinely want to help people? Do you not have the boldness to confront people in the spirit of meekness, but bang on people behind the social media curtain like the wizard of Oz? What is the purpose of your preaching? Because everyone is a preacher. Your belief system is connected to what you post and like… and if you really admit what you wish you could like or dislike, but don’t have the guts too.

Many people like the influence of social media, but don’t want the accountability of true leadership… and followship for that matter. Jesus had a STANDARD of Loving, Living, and Leading not a STATUS to convince people He was the Christ. It’s easy to create a perception of what you want people to believe about you, but its more authentic to live it. Get LinkedIN to His Influence! #TruthInLove #Conviction #Accountability

GOSPEL SELECTiVE: DO YOU CHOOSE WHO YOU WILL SHARE THE GOSPEL WITH? This is NOT a defense for sin, but a stand for LOVE & TRUTH that embraces any person with the hope that building a relationship with them will lead to transformation.

Taken from the subchapter GOSPEL SELECTiVE in the new book by Warren H. Stewart, Jr. DiRTY CHRiSTiANiTY: We’ve Left Something Out of the Gospel. Available at http://www.dirtychristianity.com and all book retailers worldwide.

When it comes to addressing sin in the church we are now focused on the sin of homosexuality. Although it is a major agenda being pushed in America, the TRUE church must stand on truth. The Bible is very clear on the consequences of sexual sin, and homosexuality and sexual sin is the only sin the Bible tells us to run from. Truth is truth!

Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.” – Romans 1:24-32 NASB

“Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” – 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 NASB

Though this is truth in scripture, we do become selective with what sin we feel is bigger than others. And for homosexuals they feel they are still too dirty for God’s love and not accepted in church. Some may even feel they were born that way, but many are that way because of sexual abuse. The reality is, most homosexual people still live in the fear of judgment and live in secrecy, which shows the deeper bondage they are in, but they still need to know they are loved and welcome in our churches. They can be restored and transformed by truth and love. While God loves the sinner, but hates the sin, the person in homosexual sin cannot exchange God’s truth for a lie. However, we cannot frown upon them and not on other sins in the world and in the church. It is almost as if people want to have homosexuals sit in one section, liars in another, adulterers on the side, gossipers in the choir. I don’t know where the envious and jealous people would sit because we can’t see their sin. We have got to do better. They are not any of these labels of sin, they are human beings made in the image, in the likeness of God, who struggle with this particular sin. We are not representing Jesus well, and outsiders notice it. Many people I speak with say, why come to church when you all do the same thing we do out here or even worse? At least we respect God’s house and don’t come.

Jesus echoed the same thing to the religious leaders in Matthew 23:15 (NASB):

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.”

I thank God that times have shifted and we see more multi-ethnic ministries today, but there are still sections of our communities where prejudice divides people when it comes to who needs Jesus. Are you prejudiced when it comes to sharing the gospel? Are you SELECTIVE with who you will love despite their lifestyle? Are you GOSPEL SELECTIVE? We don’t want people who don’t look like us, talk like us, or live by us to be around us. It is sick. Black churches, White churches, Mexican churches, Rich churches, Poor churches, Mega churches, Small churches. Sunday is still the most segregated day of the week (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.). I have met with many pastors in meetings and conferences all over Arizona and have discovered that some would not know how to deal with the people Jesus dealt with. I can discern that they like for “their ministry” and “their people” to stay in the normative of “their demographic.”

While we are GOSPEL SELECTIVE with those we will share the gospel with or invite to our churches, Jesus broke down every dividing wall of classism, racism, fascism, and sexism in His ministry and died and rose for ALL who would believe (Romans 1:16; Galatians 3:28). Sinners are not afraid of Christ, they are just not attracted to the lack of authentic Christianity.

“He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” – Luke 14:12-14 ESV
